But keep in mind this small puppy will soon grow to be 10 kilos (~25 pounds), and it won’t be any fun sharing the bed.

Furthermore, your dog must have their own private space, where they can relax from whatever is bothering them (including you).

Look through my tips on finding the best dog bed for westies.

Consider how big should the bed be

Perhaps the most critical step of finding the best dog bed for westies is actually to take time and measure your dog.

A 24″ inch dog bed should be perfect for most standard sized Westies.

You may want to go with a few inches bigger bed just in case.

Many people make the mistake of heading to a pet shop without any actual measurements.

You may think you know your dog, but it is difficult to remember the specific size if they are not with you.

How to measure your dog?

To make the measurements, you will need a measuring tape .

What follows is quite easy – simply measure your dog from its tail to its nose.

If your westie is still a puppy, it is best to purchase a bed that will fit him even as they grow up.

Also, your dog should be able to lie comfortably in all natural positions.

Remember – just because you have a West Highland Terrier, don’t assume their size by breed standards.

My dogs, for example, are much smaller than typical westies, so there is no need to purchase a huge bed.

The same goes for the weight.

If your four-legged friend is on the heavier side, make sure that the beds have extra padding.

Pick the right colors for the dog bed

So your house doesn’t look like a mess, I suggest purchasing a dog bed that is not in dark colors.

Your westie will more or less shed his hair.

Since it is in white, quite logically, it will be easily spotted on dark materials.

For this reason, it is best to opt for a bed that is in a beautiful neutral gray, which will perfectly hide your dog’s fur.

Although white might seem like an excellent option to camouflage the hair, you have to be realistic about your daily habits.

If you don’t want to wash your westie’s bed every other day, it is probably best to go with another color.

Think about the bed’s durability

Is your westie a cheeky one? Especially for West Highland Terrier puppies, it is vital to think about your chosen bed’s durability. If your furry friend enjoys destructive chewing, you need to look for materials that will be able to survive your dog and won’t do them any damage.

When my westies were puppies, I purchased a beautiful bed for them to share.

The outer part was made of materials similar to bamboo.

Unfortunately, since they were pretty naughty at the time, they destroyed the bed in just a few months, so we had to throw it out.

Now, on the other hand, such bed would be a perfect choice, as their chewing days are well behind them.

Choose a bed that can be washed

As humans, we are used to washing our sheets regularly.

Just imagine how we would smell if we would change our bedding only on rare occasions.

Ew!

The same goes for your westie. For hygiene reasons, you need to pick a bed that can be washed.

Otherwise, your house will have an unpleasant dirty dog odor, and your four-legged friend’s health may suffer too.

Ideally, your westie’s bed should come with a removable cover.

Then there is no issue keeping it clean.

Washing your dog’s bed is even more important in flea season.

To avoid the risk of getting nasty bugs, your westie’s oasis should be cleaned regularly.

How to find the best dog bed for westies? Keep their habits in mind

Each dog is different. That is why there is not one bed that would fit all.

To find the best dog bed for westies, you have to consider your furry friend’s habits and preferences.

Some pups prefer to sleep in secluded areas. For example, one of my West Highland Terriers loves to hide under the blanket.

On occasions like this, it might be wise to choose a hooded bed, which allows your pet to have more privacy.

Some dogs don’t like typical dog beds at all.

In that case, you may opt for a simple thick pillow or padding.

My westies strangely prefer to lay on taller objects.

That is why we chose a bed that is thicker than usual.

Nowadays, purchasing the perfect dog bed for your West Highland terrier is easier than ever.

With a wide range of shapes, sizes, and colors, you are sure to find a bed that will make your four-legged friend’s ZZZs much nicer.
