The 4 Tips To Choosing Your Chihuahua’s Bed

When you are at the pet store or online and looking for a new bed for your Chihuahua, there are a few things to think about first, such as:

  • The size of your dog
  • how they sleep
  • their age
  • activity levels

Keeping It Small For Your Little Breed

While going overboard and purchasing a larger than necessary dog bed might feel like you’re giving your dog a giant space to sleep, the truth is, it’s likely that they’d prefer a smaller and more snug bed instead.

I always suggest finding a bed that is only a little larger than your dog if they were to be spread out.

For a Chihuahua, that’s going to be a small size since they are such a tiny breed of dog.

Chihuahua’s usually like to feel snuggled and warm.

So going with a small to extra small sized bed would be best.

Choosing A Bed That Fits Your Chihuahua’s Sleep Style

Just like people, dogs have different and unique sleeping positions

Some dogs like to sprawl out or stretch, meaning that they should probably have a rectangular shaped bed that accommodates their sleep style.

There are other dogs that enjoy being in a circular position or curled up into a ball.

Donut beds and beds that are squishy or fluffy would be an excellent choice for those pups.

On a personal level, I’ve noticed many Chihuahuas and other smaller breeds preferring to sleep in those round, donut shaped beds because they like the feeling of being snuggled close.

Old Dogs Deserve More Comfy Beds

Chihuahuas may not be particularly prone to orthopedic issues with their hips and knees, but like any dog, they can still suffer from arthritis and other signs of old age.

Many of our canines will need an upgrade to their dog bed once they’ve reached geriatric years.

For the Chihuahua, that’s usually around the age of 10.

When Chihuahuas get older, they will want more cushion and a softer bed to help ease the discomfort in their aging joints.

Finding a bed that is waterproof with a washable outer cover is the most effective and long-lasting.

How Active Is Your Chihuahua?

These graceful little dogs may not be big, but they can have loads of energy.

When they’re young and in their prime, you can see a Chihuahua do some epic zoomies around the backyard or the house until they’re exhausted.

If your Chihuahua is a busy pup and spends a lot of time burning energy and calories, it would be best to ensure they had a comfortable and soft bed to rest on after they’re all tuckered out.

Finding The Perfect Bed For Your Little Chihuahua

There is a lot to be said for the smallest breed of dog in the world and that’s that they are sassy, funny, spoiled and dedicated to their owners.

This tiny breed loves to stay close and live a comfortable life, so make sure to give them a soft and sleep-worthy bed that they will love forever.
